Knowledge Management in Hospitality and Tourism
CRC; 1 edition (October 8, 2003) | 0789021463 | 137 pages | PDF | 23 Mb

When knowledge is properly managed, it s in the hands of those who need it BEFORE they need it. This greatly improves the speed of business operations by eliminating time-consuming information searching! This book will show you how to make any hospitality or tourism related business more efficient and competitive by using knowledge management concepts and techniques. It provides an essential introduction to the concept of knowledge management plus fascinating case studies, strategic advice, and structural recommendations for its implementation. You ll learn to use knowledge management to avoid the duplication of research, reducing the cost of product research and development and increasing the effectiveness of your overall operation. Helpful charts and figures make the information easy to access and understand. From the editors: Although tourism and hospitality, with their geographically dispersed units, can profit from enhanced knowledge management, only a small number of firms have implemented knowledge management techniques. A recent study shows that although managers in many hotels consider knowledge management and information transfer to be relevant concepts, they report being confronted with too many-and unclear-knowledge management strategies, activities, and implementation techniques. As a result, they are not sufficiently familiar with knowledge management and reject implementing it. This book will increase understanding of these concepts and help to speed the implementation of knowledge management in the hospitality and tourism industries. This book will show you how to make any hospitality or tourism related business more competitive by using knowledge management concepts and techniques. It provides an essential introduction to the concept of knowledge management, with fascinating case studies as well strategic advice and structural recommendations for its implementation. In addition, you ll find: analyses of various aspects of knowledge management in hotels an examination of an Internet-based knowledge management system and its sources, repositories, taxonomy, services, applications, and user interfaces the advent of the knowledge café and what it means to the travel and tourism industries the knowledge supply chain matrix, which combines strategic and operative aspects of knowledge management-with a practical example drawn from the airline industry new developments in software applications for cross-border destination management, with an example drawn from the new AlpNet project that demonstrates the importance of cooperation and of member-specific requirements insightful thoughts about mental models as they relate to tourism-what they are and how understanding them can lead to lower degrees of mistrust and more efficient operation of tourism-based businesses essential information about database marketing, data mining, and knowledge discovery, with introductions to decision tree classifiers, regression analysis, induction programming logic, and probabilistic rules

Science Discoveries on the Net: An Integrated Approach
Publisher: Libraries Unlimited | ISBN: 1563088231 | edition 2000 | PDF | 313 pages | 11 mb

Adding the Internet to classroom lessons can be a daunting task for teachers and librarians. The tried-and-true methods of evaluating traditional materials (books, magazines, videos) don t translate as easily to Web sites. Fredericks offers not only lists of Web sites, but also ideas on how to use the Internet as part of a larger classroom or research activity. Part one is fairly general, including an introduction to teaching science, as well as tips on teaching with online resources.

#5: Home : Introduction to Polymer Viscoelasticity, 3rd Edition by Montgomery T. Shaw

Introduction to Polymer Viscoelasticity, 3rd Edition by Montgomery T. Shaw

Publisher: Wiley-Interscience; 3 edition (August 8, 2005) | ISBN: 0471740454 | Pages: 316 | PDF | 16.89 MB

Because viscoelasticity affects the properties, appearance, processing, and performance of polymers such as rubber, plastic, and adhesives, a proper utilization of such polymers requires a clear understanding of viscoelastic behavior. Now in its third edition, Introduction to Polymer Viscoelasticity remains a classic in the literature of molecular viscoelasticity, bridging the gap between primers on polymer science and advanced research-level monographs. Assuming a molecular, rather than a mechanical approach, the text provides a strong grounding in the fundamental concepts, detailed derivations, and particular attention to assumptions, simplifications, and limitations.

Over recent years, a number of significant developments in the application of valves have taken place: the increasing use of actuator devices, the introduction of more valve designs capable of reliable operation in difficult fluid handling situations; low noise technology and most importantly, the increasing attention being paid to product safety and reliability. Digital technology is making an impact on this market with manufacturers developing intelligent (smart) control valves incorporating control functions and interfaces.

Aminoacyl-Trna Synthetases (Molecular Biology Intelligence Unit) by Michael Ibba

Publisher: Landes Bioscience; 1 edition (March 2005) | ISBN: 1587061899 | Pages: 420 | PDF | 17.81 MB

The aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases occupy a special position in molecular biology, the point in gene expression at which the genetic code is first defined. Francis Crick, in his inimitable fashion, foresaw in his prescient Adaptor Hypothesis the need for such a family of enzymes to provide an interface between nucleic acids and amino acids, long before even the basic tenets of protein synthesis had been established. In the halfcentury or so since, these “adaptors” and the enzymes that recognize them have continued to provide many surprises in what at first might have been considered a simple housekeeping reaction of protein synthesis. Perhaps most importantly, their study has revealed the molecular mechanisms that determine and accurately maintain the genetic code. In addition to serving as the first systems that illustrate how proteins achieve sequence specific recognition of RNA, work on synthetases has also provided groundbreaking advances in numerous fields ranging from structural biology to enzymology to gene expression to molecular evolution. More recently, cellular functions have been found for aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases beyond their classical roles, opening up new and unexpected areas for study. The purpose of this book is to provide for the first time a comprehensive volume covering all aspects of the aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases and aminoacyl-tRNA synthesis. We hope it will prove to be an invaluable reference to those in the field and the ideal introduction to those outside the area.

THE LEGAL ENVIRONMENT OF BUSINESS provides a detailed practical introduction to the structure and function of the legal system from the perspective of the professional non-lawyer. Unlike other books it does not get bogged down in the complexities of the law, but tries to focus, in a very straightforward manner, on the core legal concepts most essential for business managers to know. Rather than conveying the material in the dry, serious manner of many other legal environment books, the text uses a reader-friendly style and frequent points of humor and levity to make it much easier for the key ideas to come across.
