French musician and singer Emilie Simon was born in 1978. She was a student of ancient music before turning to writing and composing electronic music. She found success in France with her self-titled debut album released in 2003. It won an award in France for Best Electronic Album, helped in part, by her striking videos.

Emilie Simon has ventured into the world of cinema for her second album, composing the soundtrack to Luc Jacquet's extraordinary feature-length documentary about Emperor penguins, La Marche de l'empereur. Emilie's soundtrack is as surprising as it is moving, with long instrumentals conjuring up visions of ice floes cracking in winter and vocal tracks charged with pure emotion.
